"Eureka" PPN1 beacon carrying bag
Very rare PPN1 "Eureka" beacon carrying bag. Heavy impregnated canvas cloth made. Padded housing for antenna storage on front. "S.FROEHLICH Co Inc, N.Y.C" manufacturer's stamp inside inner pocket's flap , dated 1944. Large zipper "Crown" made. Double zipper in perfect working order on main part of bag. Large light khaki web strap around bag with a hook at its end for attachment to T-5 harness. "STOCK NO°2Z 565-1-1" balck stenciled on front part. This bag can be seen on many shots taken on June 5th 1944 in England, worn by 82nd and 101st airborne pathfinders a few minutes before taking off in C-47s. The PPN1 "Eureka" beacon is used on the ground and "Rebecca" is the air component of the radar system. Used in Normandy by 82nd, 101st AB pathfinders and british 22nd Independant Parachute Company to mark out the landing zones prior to D-day landings. Also used in southern France by the 1st Independent Para. Platoon, in Holland and Bastogne on december 1944. It is to this day the rarest US WW2 beacon ever made.
