29th ID Helmet
M1 pattern steel helmet with fixed bail rectangular stainless rings from a 29th infantry division GI. Division insignia (blue ying and grey yang) painted on helmet's top front part. Insignia is 80% left. Manufacturer's markings inside front "90A". Chinstraps are khaki with dark brass tips. Liner is 2nd pattern fiber made and also bears the painted division insignia in the same place as the helmet. The liner is complete with snap on neck band, torn leather and canvas headband. All the straps inside are light khaki.Made by "Westinghouse" with same markings inside the helmet: "W" letter inside an oval. A beautiful collector's item wich remains in an outstanding condition in spite of age and found in a well known french collection. The 29th div landed in Normandy on June 6th 1944 on Omaha beach in the same time as the 1st infantry division and sustained important casualties. This division will see combat action during most of Normandy and Brittany campaigns, til the end of war. 29th div will win fame in many occasions, showing courage and efficiency in combat.
